Joe McElderry to Star as Tommy in Charity Concert
22 October 2012

For one night only the smash-hit on Broadway and West End – Rock Opera TOMMY plays at the Prince Edward Theatre on Monday 12th November. This powerful tale of a deaf, dumb and blind pinball player who becomes an international messiah bursts onto the stage in this multi-award winning adaptation of the original chart-topping rock album. Featuring hit songs including Pinball Wizard, Im Free and See Me, Feel Me.
JOE McELDERRY, winner of X Factor in 2009 and Popstar to Opera Star in 2011, will play the title character of Tommy. Joe commented: “I’m very excited to make my West End debut in the iconic Rock Opera “Tommy”, I have been waiting for a role that would challenge both my acting and singing skills, this has both. I am a big fan of The Who and it is incredible that Pete Townshend wrote this piece when he was 21, the same age as me.”
The cast also features DAVID HUNTER (Cousin Kevin; from SUPERSTAR fame ), DANIEL BOYS (Captain Walker; from ANY DREAM WILL DO fame), HANNAH JANE FOX (Mrs Walker); ZOE BIRKETT (The Acid Queen) and GLENN CARTER (Uncle Ernie).
The concert performance is being held in aid of the Pure Theatre Development Fund which has been set up with the aim of funding the development of new writing in musicals and straight theatre. The fund will facilitate workshops and readings of new writing and will be launched in conjunction with this exciting production. The show will also raise funds during the performance for Teenage Cancer Trust of which Joe McElderry is an Ambassador.
